I imagine that alot of people out there have already heard about this, but just in case you haven't, there's an apparent new malware thing out there that comes in pairs, the names that I've seen for it are GameOver Zeus and CryptoLocker.  They're distributed through the typical important official looking e-mails from wherever.

GameOver Zeus is a keylogger, it'll monitor your keystrokes for bank passwords and account names and the like, once this is done CryptoLocker is activated which then proceeds to encrypt the files on your computer, and the creator of the malware holds them at ransom.  Once infected, your computer joins the network in spreading the malware.

The network has, however, been temporarily broken and there is a very small window two-week window to ensure that your computer is secure, FBI, Europol, and the UK's National Crime Agency, the ones that broke the network, have said that after this window they suspect the criminal will potentially unleash a large scale cyber-attack.

What was shown to me as recommendations to secure your computer are:

Up-to-date security that checks download links and e-mail attachments, this is vital to have in protecting yourself from this.

Update your Operating System.  The latest version of your OS would of course have better security.

Back up your system and files, it will help to make CryptoLocker less of a threat.

And lastly, using a 2-Step Authentication.  This last step is something that requires randomly generated codes to confirm online purchases and transfers.

All the information I've stated here can be found via this link, this is where I got the information

Snopes report on CryptoLocker

Snopes report on GameOver Zeus

These posts work better with some sort of source links attached.

Snopes report on the Cryptolocker virus confirming its authenticity.  It also goes on to state that if your backup device is connected to your computer when the infection hits, you may lose the backup as well - so keep it unplugged between backup sessions.

Snopes report on the ZeuS virus

In both cases, antivirus can EASILY remove both viruses, but cannot unlock the encryption placed on files by Cryptolocker.  Nor can they "un-steal" any information that ZeuS has already collected from you.

I actually expected this to be false or almost a decade outdated like most such posts, kinda glad this is an actual legit warning this time so people can be made aware
